Aotearoa New Zealand’s histories books for schools

12/05/21

To promote Aotearoa New Zealand’s histories, the Ministry of Education is inviting schools and kura to order up to $200 of high-quality history books for their libraries.

Principals/Tumuaki can choose the books they want from a list of some recent publications on Aotearoa New Zealand’s histories. This list is not comprehensive but provides a taste of some of the high-quality publications that are available in te reo Māori and in English language.

These books will stimulate interest, discussion, and engagement with Aotearoa New Zealand’s histories.  Teachers, school leaders, whānau, and communities can give feedback on the draft content for Aotearoa New Zealand’s histories until 31 May. Find out more and give feedback on Education.Govt.NZ – Aotearoa New Zealand’s histories in our national curriculum.

A suite of resources to support implementation will be available to schools and kura in Term 4 2021 and term 1 2022. Information on these resources will be published on Social Sciences Online

Collage of New Zealand book covers.

Placing orders

Principals/Tumuaki can order up to $200 worth of books from a list on Down the Back of the Chair. They may nominate another staff member, such as a school librarian, to place the order on their behalf. Orders will open on Monday, 24 May and the last day for orders is Friday, 25 June 2021.

Delivery

Orders will be distributed from June 2021. Schools who have not received their orders by the end of July 2021 can contact us at [email protected] or on 0800 660 662.
