Text version of Figure 7 Managing self continuum

This is students’ collage work. There are three steps going across the bottom of the picture – going upwards from left to right. On the main part of the first step are the words: ‘Apprentice – starting to learn’. On the main part of the second step are the words: ‘Practitioner – learning to be an expert. On the main part of the third step are the words: ‘Expert – you know a lot about it.’

There are drawings of students stuck on above each step. Above the lowest step (Apprentice) there are two students; above the middle step (Practitioner) there are 15 students; above the highest step (Expert) there are seven students.

There are three signs in the top third of the picture, above the students, above the steps. The sign on the left is a brainstorming diagram – the only words legible are in a fluffy cloud shape in the middle of the diagram and read: ‘Managing self’. The sign in the middle has the heading: ‘’Managing self’ with typed text underneath that is too small to read. The third sign, reads: ‘We all set ourselves a personal goal to solve a problem that was important to us. Where we are on the step, shows us how we think we are going with our goal.’
