The learning context
Students invent a new team game using PE equipment, and teach the whole school how to play it.
To begin, students can play a range of familiar games such as Scatterball, Dodgeball, Seaweed, and so on. As they explore the rules of each game they could suggest ways to modify them to make them more exciting and competitive. These adapted games can be trialled by the class and the success of each reflected on.
Students can then work in small cooperative groups to devise a new team game using simple PE equipment such as balls, ropes, bats, and nets. The games can be taught to other classes with school wide competitions held.
