Digital readiness programme


The Kia Takatū ā-Matihiko | Digital Readiness programme designed to help teachers, kaiako, and education leaders to introduce the new Digital Technologies & Hangarau Matihiko curriculum content will launch on 21 June. This nationwide programme will provide an understanding of the new digital technologies content and useful teaching strategies, as well as the opportunity to network with others to gain ideas and insights, view explanatory videos, and train as a digital leader. Check out the Kia Takatū website and be one of the first to use the Te Tokorima-ā-Mahuika self-review tool to assess how ready you are to implement the new curriculum content. The programme will be useful for all levels of teaching capability.

Assessing and reporting guidance for schools


Schools and kura are no longer required to use National Standards and Ngā Whanaketanga Rumaki Māori for assessing and reporting on progress and achievement in literacy and numeracy.


The National Administration Guidelines (NAGs) have been revised to reflect the requirement for schools to report on both progress and achievement across the breadth of the curriculum.


The Ministry is providing guidance for schools and kura to support you in reviewing your approach to assessment and reporting to meet the changed requirements.


The guidance for schools using The New Zealand Curriculum is based on stories from eight schools that illustrate a range of approaches and methods. You will be able to use the stories and examples from these schools to affirm or adapt your current approach. The updated guidance is available through Assessment Online.


For kura and Māori medium settings working with Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, we are continuing to provide guidance on how to use Te Waharoa Ararau to support the collation of student progress and achievement information for reporting. In addition, we will provide advice on aromatawai and reporting and support for using Tū Rangatira to guide aromatawai and reporting. The guidance is available on the Te Waharoa Ararau page on TKI.
