Literacy learning progressions
The Ministry of Education's draft Literacy learning progressions site was launched on 29 November 2007.
The purpose of the literacy learning progressions is to provide teachers with a professional tool that shows them what knowledge and skills their students need in order to meet the reading and writing demands of the New Zealand Curriculum. The literacy learning progressions describe the knowledge and skills that students need to have developed at specific points in their schooling if they are to engage with the texts and tasks of the curriculum and make the expected progress.
The site contains the learning progressions and feedback forms for responding to the draft.
Numeracy – Figure It Out
Figure It Out is a series of mathematics curriculum support books in full colour designed to supplement existing classroom mathematics programmes. The series is an important component of the Literacy and Numeracy strategy that focuses on clarifying the expectations for learners' progress and achievement, and developing teacher professional capability.
Revision of the environmental education guidelines
Submissions are now open for comment on the proposed revision of the Guidelines for Environmental Education for New Zealand Schools.
Read the position paper that has been drafted to prompt thinking about the revision. This is available in full or summary form, along with a comment submission form.
There are scheduled discussion meetings in Auckland (7 November), Hamilton (15 November), Wellington (15 November), Christchurch (21 November) and Dunedin (5 December).
Whether or not you can attend one of these meetings, we would strongly encourage you to have your say using the online submission form. We realise this is a difficult time of year to ask for your input, but very much welcome your involvement in this process and look forward to your contribution.
Please pass this message on to others and particularly urge interested teachers and their students to have an input so their voices can be heard. All feedback will be used to inform a brief that will guide the development of new Guidelines. Any enquiries to Chris Eames.
