Evidence that this provision is needed can be found in the following:
The Education Review Office (April 2011) found that in English medium schools reviewed in the second half of 2010, about 80% were implementing The New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) as intended, but up to 20% struggled with significant components of NZC implementation. The purpose of this PLD is to support these leaders and teachers in their ongoing implementation.
Outcomes sought through procurement:
All schools implementing the NZC have in place:
- a school curriculum that sets out how they will achieve the NZC vision for all their students that validates students’ identity, language, and culture
- processes to monitor and review their progress on key elements of the curriculum
- processes to ensure effective implementation of curriculum aligned national standards (primary) and achievement standards (secondary).
Note: The Ministry of Education has a variety of research, monitoring, and evaluation reports that provide evidence and further information of the needs of leaders and teachers, and how they might best be met in 2012-2013. These are available on the NZC Online website.
