New communities on English, ESOL, and Literacy Online
12/02/10
Dear Colleague
We wish to alert you to a group of new online communities you may be interested in joining.
We have launched email based communities for:
- secondary English facilitated by Mike Fowler
- ICTs in English facilitated by Phil Coogan
- primary ESOL facilitated by Gaylene Price
- secondary ESOL facilitated by Breda Matthews
- literacy (a community for all primary teachers) facilitated by Chris Henderson
- secondary literacy (a community for all secondary teachers) facilitated by Denise Hitchcock
You can subscribe to all six mailing lists via the Interact section of any of the three sites English Online, ESOL Online, or Literacy Online. This is a very easy process involving providing your name and email address only. Simply:
- select which of the above 6 communities you wish to subscribe to (you can subscribe to as many as you like)
- enter your name and email address in the box
- Press 'Subscribe'
- check your email inbox for a welcome email
- start sharing ideas, requesting help and resources and establishing professional relationships with your English/ESOL/literacy colleagues
The whole process should take under a minute.
These communities are pre-moderated so you won’t be subjected to spam and other inappropriate posts. Archives will soon be available for each.
We are making the change to email based communities as we know that the most vibrant and engaged teacher communities are those conducted via email. However as we have said, we will be deploying a range of Web 2.0 tools for special interest groups, for targeted short term spotlights and workshops and, when the time is right, for the above communities. We will also be guided by you on what new communities may need to be established over time.
Please help us to build these communities by distributing this information to your colleagues (within and beyond your school/organisation).
We look forward to seeing you in whatever community you choose to join.
And we wish you all the best for a great 2010.
Phil Coogan for the English/ESOL/Literacy Online team.
