Implementing the key competencies

21/04/10

This strategy is cross posted from the English Online listserv by Claire Amos, Auckland Secondary English Facilitator of Team Solutions:

I have just been watching this presentation from Rosemary Hipkins about implementing the key competencies, in which she compares the potential of implementing the key competencies to an earthquake.

This has raised the question in my mind - anyone feeling tremors?

  • What evidence can you find in your department that the NZC has in fact been (or is beginning to be) genuinely implemented??
  • How have you, your department (or even your school) actually tackled the beast?
  • What are you doing differently this year?
  • How are the vision, values, principles and/or key competencies being integrated into your scheme / programmes / unit / lesson plans?
  • Or have you taken the stance that "we do it already"?
  • Are your students aware of the change?

Would love to hear what is happening out there!

PS. If you haven't already, make sure you check out the NZC presentations at http://nzcurriculum.tki.org.nz/Curriculum-stories/Keynotes-and-presentations There is some great stuff there.
