National Standards webinars

23/10/09

In November 2009, the Ministry offered one-hour online webinars about the National Standards. These webinars covered the same content as any Term 4 face-to-face regional information session.
Each webinar held up to 90 participants from around the country with National Office content experts supporting each session to answer questions.
Webinars are not a new concept for our schools. e-Admin Training Services have hosted webinars and online training sessions for the last 5 years to all schools nationwide. In July 2009 the new Board Training and Support programme was launched, many principals and boards joined together nationwide during the two series of webinars.

Overview of a webinar- what is it?

A webinar is simply an online seminar. Imagine a lecture theatre style seminar, from the comfort of home, work place or school. The 1 hour sessions designed to support large audiences and are very effective for sharing of information or presenting an overview of a subject. It’s a great opportunity to join in with others from all over the country whilst participating in the webinar.

To ensure each person attending can hear the trainer clearly without any background noise we will mute the phone line, however through the webinar each person can type in questions and receive answers. They will be encouraged to ask questions and participate in activities that will assist with their learning.

For those who have not participated in a webinar, there is a growing body of evidence to show that the learning outcomes are comparable with face to face delivery, when the participant has mastered the delivery method. This means when the participant is comfortable learning using the web conference technology, they learn just as well.

How to book

The Ministry e-Admin Training team will send an email with instructions on how to book online through our website

We will email this information to all Principals. As we currently only hold contact details for some Board Chairpersons and Teachers, many will need to register their interest by email to eadmin.training@minedu.govt.nz

What technology is required?

To take part in a webinar each person will need:

  • A computer that can access the internet; dial up and broadband is both suitable.
  • The use of a phone next to the computer. Ideally this will have hands free and mute options.
  • You will be provided a toll free 0800 number to call for the audio conference.
