Online support and resources
Available now and being regularly updated on the Assessment Online website:
- Guidelines and materials for schools to adapt and use, including templates for reporting to parents, and guidelines for making overall teacher judgments and moderating processes.
- Templates and examples of school reports, including examples of different graphs and school reporting cycles.
- An assessment tool selector for teachers and schools to help select the most appropriate assessment tool to suit their particular purpose.
A self review tool has been developed to support schools to implement National Standards by determining their development needs and priorities.
The Literacy Learning Progressions describe the specific literacy knowledge, skills, and attitudes that students draw on in order to meet the reading and writing demands of the curriculum.
Specific support material for teachers of students for whom English is an additional language will be available from February 2010. This is intended to support teachers making overall teacher judgments about students' progress and achievement in relation to the English Language Learning Progressions (ELLP) and the National Standards. Further information will be available online from this website.
General support, information and guidance
Information will be available for parents about what to expect with regard to the National Standards and plain language reporting from the parents section on the Ministry website.
Board view, principal view, and New Zealand Curriculum updates in the Education Gazette will provide regular ongoing updates and guidance for schools.
The Ministry will work with providers to design modifications to student management systems so they can capture overall teacher judgments and be used to generate individual student reports for parents against the standards by June 2010. More information will be available early in the new year.
Other work related to National Standards
A monitoring and evaluation study will be undertaken with 100 schools in 2010. The project will complement other information sources about the implementation and outcomes of National Standards, and is one part of a larger monitoring and evaluation framework. Information including the wider evaluation strategy will be published on TKI as it becomes available.
