This diagram illustrates the influences on young people’s career decision-making. It uses a circular format with a student and the career management competencies at the centre. The influences are presented in three layers:
- the closest and strongest influences are family and whānau
- next are peers, school, tertiary education, employers, the community and the media
- the macro-level influences are socio-economic factors, educational opportunities, employment market, geographical factors, historical factors and political factors
