Career education and guidance is an inherent element of every school's provision of a rich and balanced education. The New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, to be implemented in schools in 2010, provide fresh contexts for shaping the ways career education is included in school-based curriculum.
We know that students become more engaged with learning if they are thinking about and preparing for the next steps in their lives. Providing learning opportunities that develop career management competencies has the advantage that the content and context are inherently real and future-focused.
