Conservation week - 11th to 18th September 2011

Conservation week takes place between 11th to 18th September, and is an opportunity to celebrate New Zealand's unique wildlife, and incredible environment. The following are some sites with information, activities and ways to get involved.

LEARNZ.

LEARNZ field trip - Kiwi conservation
This field trip begins on September 14th. Visit a kiwi conservation project in the new West Coast Wildlife Centre at Franz Josef. Meet people involved in Kiwi Recovery and assist with Operation Nest Egg techniques. See what you can do to make a difference.

Digistore.

The issues around whaling
This learning path looks at the history of whaling and the different issues that have arisen around whaling in relation to protecting whale populations.

Department of conservation.

DOC has put together a wealth of information and resources for teachers and students to learn together and celebrate conservation week.

Kiwi conservation club.

Kiwi conservation club
Kiwi conservation club is an interactive child friendly site with information, practical activities to help save the planet, games and quizzes.

ECO.

Environment and conservation organisations of Aotearoa New Zealand
This website has information about ECO and its 60+ member groups as well as news of the environment and major conservation issues in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Wildlife New Zealand.

Wildlife New Zealand
This website aims to provide a comprehensive resource to information on the web about New Zealand's wildlife and its conservation.

New Zealand plant conservation network
Network members collaborate to protect and restore New Zealand's indigenous plant life and their natural habitats and associated species.

NZCTV.

New Zealand trust for conservation volunteers
The NZCTV lists nationwide projects covering sustainability and eco diversity; wildlife and habitat; planting and restoration; research and fieldwork; and botanical and organic centres. There is also an online community.
