The diagram consists of text within arrows. All the arrows point downwards from the heading: ‘The New Zealand Curriculum’ at the top down to the words: ‘The School Curriculum’ at the bottom.

There are two main arrows: the arrow on the left is about two-thirds of the width of the page, and the arrow on the right is about one-third of the width of the page.

These two arrows are the same length, pointing downwards.

The main arrow on the left is headed: ‘Directions for learning’. Underneath this heading is a short but wide arrow headed: ‘Vision’, followed by the words: ‘Young people who will be confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners.’ Below this arrow there are four narrow arrows: one on the left, one in the middle, and two on the right – one above the other. Underneath this main arrow on the left, there is another short but wide arrow headed: ‘Principles’, followed by the words: ‘High expectations, Treaty of Waitangi, Cultural diversity, Inclusion, Learning to learn, Community engagement; Coherence, Future focus’.

The main arrow on the right is headed: ‘Guidance’. Within this arrow there are three blocks laid vertically. The top block reads: ‘Purpose and Scope’; the second block reads: ‘Effective Pedagogy’; the third block reads ‘The School Curriculum: Design and Review’.
