New resources

LEARNZ Canterbury Earthquake virtual field trip

The LEARNZ Canterbury Earthquake virtual field trip website is available for all New Zealand teachers. While the actual field trip (23-25 February) was cancelled all back ground information, images and activities designed for the New Zealand curriculum remain accessible. The ‘Ask-an-Expert’ web forum will continue to be supported by staff from the University of Canterbury Department of Geological Sciences until the end of March. Teachers are invited to register with LEARNZ (if not already) and enrol their class in this trip (all free) to use the ‘Ask-an-Expert’ web forum.

NZC Update 6 - Illustrations supporting the National Standards

This Update focuses on the illustrations that support the National Standards for reading, writing, and mathematics and how teachers can use them.

This month we are sharing a few resources - some are designed to support Christchurch schools while others support teachers and students learning about the earthquake.

National Standards

Using self review to inform planning on the Educational Leaders website, provides video of leadership teams from Beckenham and Opawa primary schools working together. Sets of action plans, and related documents from Birkdale and Tamaki primary Schools in Auckland, Te Pahu and Pokuru primary schools in Waikato, and Beckenham and Opawa primary schools in Christchurch are also available.

Supporting your child's learning fold out sheets are now available for download as individual images. Use the circular graphic on this page to choose the year level of your choice. An interactive version of these sheets will appear which can be used to download images for use in newsletters and other communications.

Key Competencies Online

There are a number of new resources available on Key Competencies Online including a sabbatical report and resource supporting e-portfolios.

Literacy Online: Accelerating writing progress in years 7 and 8
At level 4, students need to confidently and independently use a wide range of writing strategies and skills to meet the demands of specific learning purposes across the curriculum. This resource is designed to support teachers to accelerate the writing achievement of year 7 and 8 students so that they can meet these demands.
